TEXAS ANNIE is based on a real-life law passed in 1973 that made owning more than six sex toys a felony in the state of Texas. Although the law was overturned in 2008, it technically remains on the books. Which means, presently, you can (legally) own more guns than sex toys in Texas. Alabama has a similar version of this law that is still being enforced to this day—and more and more “obscenity” laws are currently on the rise.
